Discover Darwin the relaxed capital of the Northern Territory. Located on the coast, it provides access to the coastal region, but more specifically the national parks and southern territories.
City of exotic fragrance, surrounded by a lush and intense nature, it is geographically closer to Papua New Guinea and Indonesia than it is to Sydney or Melbourne. Welcome to the only tropical capital of Australia, and one of the last cities where it is still possible to wake up with a crocodile in the pool! Modern city, Darwin is vibrant and alive, steeped in a cosmopolitan atmosphere. Its historic centre hosts old buildings and superb beaches.
The cultural aspect of Darwin can be discovered throughout the year in the halls of the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory. Go stroll through the many Aboriginal art galleries of the city and take some fresh air in the Bicentennial Park or in the heart of the botanical gardens to relax. Many tropical trees grow here: palm trees, baobabs, mangroves; the scenery is guaranteed!
On the other side of town at the southern tip of the esplanade, the Deck Chair Cinema is another night institution in Darwin. The projection starts with a fiery sky on the background and ends under the stars. Lie down on one of the 250 deckchairs at your disposal and bring your picnic to watch an art house movie or one of the latest blockbusters for an unforgettable experience.
The epitome of Darwinian relaxation is experienced primarily at dusk.
One of the best dining experiences of Darwin is probably the Mindil Beach Asian market located in a dream location, on the beach under the palm trees every Thursday evening. You will find Indonesian, Sri Lankan, Thai, Chinese, Greek, Portuguese dishes mingled with flavours of bush while local groups play the didgeridoo, drums and guitar animating the sunsets on the beach.
This market is known for its unique atmosphere! You will also find many establishments which memorable atmospheres are highly recommended such as the Victoria Hotel, Billabong Bar, Darwin Hotel, the Green Room etc. If Darwin has some wealth, it is especially due to its surroundings where some of the most beautiful treasures of Australia can be found such as Kakadu and Litchfields National Parks where you will be able to swim under the waterfalls in a green and dense jungle!
No chance that you will be bored during a stay in the Australian capital of the North, on the contrary you will not find enough time to enjoy all the amenities of the city!
